About me

My journey with fashion started when I was really young. It has always been a way to express my own emotions, experiment with different styles, colours and most importantly tell a story through visuals. As I grew older and continued my diploma in Creative Direction for Fashion, my love for fashion only grew as I delved deeper into subjects like fashion history, trends and culture. This led me to my internship at a costume company that worked with a theatre. There, I had more opportunities to research deeper, manage wardrobes and even helped create clothes that experimented with different cultures and time periods. My love for fashion also comes from a form of legacy. Both my grandmothers were seamstresses and on even had a store where she sold her own designed dresses. Though I know I’ll never get to meet my paternal grandma who passed and I’ll never be able to fully connect my maternal grandmother with a language barrier, studying and creating fashion makes me feel a little bit closer to them and it helps me feel like I’m continuing a form of legacy.

Creative Projects

Charles & Keith Collab

Date
January 2025 ( Final year )
Role
( Solo Project ) Photography, styling, writing and editing

This was one of the two of my final projects for my diploma. It was part of a collab between my school Lasalle and the brand Charles & Keith. Our task was to use the products given to us to create a digital social media marketing campaign. Before creating the campaign concept, I had conducted my own research about the brand image as well as did my own survey on the brand's target audience and their wants and opinions.

Creative Process & Research

The campaign that I designed was called "The Florist's Song". It was a concept built around art and flowers. For the images, I shot outdoors in natural lighting and made use of real flowers as props. Because the products we were given were mostly white and black I chose flowers that could add some contrasting colours into the final image.

Date
January 2025 ( Final year )
Role
( Solo Project ) Photography, styling, writing, editing, sewing

This was one of the two final projects for my diploma in fashion. It was a solo project which included making a fashion brand as well as it's marketing campaign and products prototypes. For my product prototype, I designed two dresses and a cape. I drew inspiration from the nostalgia of fantasy fiction to create pieces that were fairytale like.

Aside from creating the products prototypes and visuals, we also had to create brand packaging for our products as well as additional accesories. For myself, I designed and created Hang Tags and Stickers that followed the brand visuals.

Brand Packaging & Accesories

For the packaging itself, my design imitates a storybook. I used a mix of 3d design and packaging design websites to print it out.

The hangtag design follows closely with the box design. It includes laundry instructions as well as a brand message.

Playhood Marketing Campaign

Date
March 2024 ( Year Two )
Role
Writer, Photographer, Editor & Stylist

Playhood's Marketing Campaign is one of my favourite school projects I've ever done in terms of styling and general vibe. It was a very playful and colourfully styled project that I had a lot of fun taking photos and conceptualising marketing strategies for. Though this was very big for a two-person project, we were really excited to draw up and create a pop-up event, flower poster and IMC book.I personally had a lot of fun styling with cardigans and knit vests as I could explore making various different aesthetics with the same type of clothing.Writing the Press release was also very nice because though I like writing, I've never had to write something so formal and for this campaign I could also incorporate a more playful style of writing.

RYE Marketing Campaign

Date
November 2023 ( Year Two )
Role
Write, Asst Photographer & 3D Filter Designer

This group project was centered around making social media content for the brand 'RYE'. This was the first time that we had brand products to style and focus on in terms of shooting and brand DNA.Personally for this project, I had an idea to make a promotional IG filter which I made using 3D modeling. I had a lot of fun learning how to 3D model by myself as it wasn't taught in school. Though the result was not as clean as I initially hoped for, I believe that it was a good attempt at something that I have never tried before and had to figure it out alone.

Here is the IG filter I made using 3D modelling in Blender.

Here are some images that I helped take.

Mothhead Personality Profile

Date
April 2023 ( Year One )

Role
Writer, Asst Photographer, Asst Stylist, Interviewer, Graphics Animator

This was my first group project in Lasalle. The project revolved around finding an interesting art personality and doing a profile about who they are, what they do and their personal brand/identity. I found this challenging because it was the first project where we had to communicate with people outside of school for an interview and photoshoot. I was tasked with conducting and writing the interview questions and through that I discovered an interest in journalism in the context of interviewing and creating an article.

E-Publication

Date
November 2022 ( Year One )
Role
Photography, styling, writing and editing

My first project in Lasalle was an individual E-Publication. Of all the projects done in my three years, this is still one of my favorites. Through this project I found out that I personally loved conducting my own fashion research and writing about fashion trends and the history behind them.

Here are some of my personal favorite pages.

Gentle Monster Short Film

Date
March 2024 ( Year Two )
Role
Videographer & Co-producer

This was a two-person small film class assignment about making a Gentle Monster Advertisement. We took inspiration from Gentle Monster's 2024 campaign "Gentle High School" and created a storyline around two students that are completely opposite meeting each other.I honestly had a very fun time videographing and creating this assignment because it gave me and my partner a chance to explore new ways to film videos, write scripts and edit.

Internship

Date
September 2024 to November 2024 ( Year 3 )

During my three month internship, I was tasked with many responsibilities and learned many new skills used in the theatre and costume industry that I wouldn’t have in school. I was put on a few theatre shows in various schools as well as at Wild Rice Theatre @ Funan. I also created and updated the company’s social media account for Halloween.

YALE NUS theatre show “Restless Night in Spring”I was put in charge of costumes before and during the show. I assisted in making the traditional Yukata costumes as well as learnt how to properly dress someone in traditional Japanese wear. As I was the only person in charge of costumes for this show. I took care of costume prep, care, archival and dressing. This experience was definitely new to me and it really exposed me to the behind the scenes of theatre and putting on a show. I encountered a few challenges because I was put into a unfamiliar environment alone but I was lucky to be surrounded by a loving and patient crew.

“Hyde goes to the Museum ” Theatre performance at The Children’s Museum.I assisted in creating traditional Samsui Woman costumes and other minor sewing attachments as well as sourced and shopped for other costumes that were fast fashion.I also assisted in costume fittings as well as costume alterations.

Sewing

Fashion Making is one of my biggest passions. Ever since I was a young child, I've taught myself how to sew. As I grew older, I've taken classes in school and outside to learn more about fashion making. These are some garments that I created in in my own time.

Patterned Fabrics

I often create garments based on exerimenting with patterned fabric. I am especially fond of fabrics that have repeating graphics. Because my personal style drifts towards a cuter aesthetic, I tend to draw inspirations from Jirai Kei and Lolita when creating my own garments.

Cosplay

To me, fashion, costumes and cosplay has always been intertwined. I've always loved creating garments inspired by specific characters or adding my own personal touches to their designs. It allows me a different way to express myself creatively as well as connect to characters in a way that brings them to life.
This section of my personal projects showcases costumes & cosplays that I've made by myself.

Alice in Wonderland Costumes

In 2024, I created some Costumes for Halloween based on the fairytale "Alice in Wonderland" for my friends.I created costumes & props for the characters Alice, White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts.

Chrissy (Stranger Things) (2023)

For a Netflix themed Halloween school celebration, I created a costume based on the character Chrissy from Stranger Things, A Netflix Show.

Nobara (JJK) (2022)

For a personal cosplay, I created Nobara's entire uniform from scratch. This was also one of my first prop making projects as I tried to make her hammer using scrap cardboard.

Personal Paintings (2021 to 2022)

Growing up, Painting was the only form of art that my parents approved of me practicing which led to it being my first form of art discipline. Though I started on watercolours, I eventually gravitated to oil and gouache. I got into the habit of painting landscapes and gifting them to my grandparents as they would display them on their walls. These are my favourite pieces as they’re inspired by things that I love and strong emotions I felt.
